Nigerian fintech firm OPay has dismissed as false a viral social media post claiming it will suspend operations from 1 September and urging customers to withdraw their funds.
In a statement published on its verified platforms, the company said it remains fully operational and assured customers that there are no plans to halt its services.
"We're here, and we're going nowhere," OPay said, urging users to verify information through its official communication channels before sharing or acting on it.
The company's Vice-President of Public and Government Affairs, Dr Maxwell Loko, described the post as "false, malicious and misleading," warning that the deliberate spread of misinformation capable of causing panic or undermining confidence in a financial institution could carry legal consequences.
The clarification follows the circulation of the fabricated claim across social media, which prompted concerns among some customers. OPay has advised users to disregard the rumour and rely only on official announcements for updates.
