Dangote Petroleum Refinery has expanded its free fuel delivery programme to Kano, Imo, Anambra and Nasarawa, in a move aimed at cutting distribution costs and supporting lower petrol prices.
The expansion brings the number of locations covered by the scheme to 10, including Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Kaduna, Delta and Abuja.
Fatima Aliko-Dangote, Group Executive Director for Commercial Operations, said the refinery would absorb delivery costs for participating marketers.
“The value of domestic refining must ultimately be felt beyond the refinery gate,” she said.
The move is expected to reduce haulage, insurance and other transport costs for independent marketers. Industry representatives say the savings could improve cash flow and create room for more competitive pump prices.
However, no new retail price has been announced. The impact on consumers will depend on how much of the savings marketers pass on.
The refinery, which has a nameplate capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, has increasingly expanded its distribution network as it seeks greater control over the supply chain from production to consumers.
